EICMA! The biggest motorcycle show of the year takes place in Milan, so the emphasis is on bikes with style (this BMW S 1000 R is an obvious exception) and performance. Here's seven of the hottest new bikes.
2014 MV Agusta Turismo Veloce: This is my favorite bike at the show. Italian style, all-day ergonomics and the latest in electronic rider aids (including semi-active suspension damping) combined with an impossibly sweet, 800 cc inline-three. 2014 Brough Superior SS100: Back in 1925, George Brough released "The Rolls-Royce of Motorcycles" he personally rode each one in excess of 100 mph before delivering it to his well-heeled customers, in order to guarantee its performance. Well-heeled customers like TE Lawrence, who would later die on one. This new bike combines modern performance with classic looks and a price tag in the region of $100,000. Read more at RideApart.
2014 Ducati Monster 1200: Everything Ducati knows about making a performance motorcycle has gone into this all-new Monster, including a 145 bhp V-twin and a "frameless" chassis design similar to that of the Panigale's. But, they've also considered human beings in its design, making this comfortable and even practical for carrying passengers. Read more at RideApart.
2014 Honda CTX1300: Honda took its existing 1,261 cc V4 from the Pan European tourer and stuck it in a muscle cruiser. Modern looks, real ergonomics, and genuine performance and handling should make an excellent, emotive motorcycle. Read more at RideApart.
2014 BMW S 1000 R: To me, this naked S 1000 RR is kind of a let down. Power drops from 193 bhp on the superbike to 160 on this naked and it loses some of the electronic rider aids as well. Oh, and then there's the looks. Don't get this one near any mirrors. Read more at RideApart.
2014 KTM RC390: Finally, a lightweight, small-capacity sportbike that isn't watered down. Made in India, it should rival more mundane bikes like the Ninja 300 on cost, but run circles around them on street or track. Read more at RideApart.
